Six Flags St. Louis/Mid America Park By Enchanted Parks, Eureka, Missouri

With the 2026 season being the most consequential season since Six Flags Over Mid America (as it was known then) opened up in 1971 there was no way I'd miss this opening day. You see, the 2026 season will be the final season for Six Flags St. Louis. No, the park isn't closing like all of those unfounded internet rumors that were everywhere last year but this will be its final year as Six Flags St. Louis.

For at least the last twenty years both Six Flags and Cedar Fair theme park chains have been struggling with debt and horrible corporate leadership. In 2024 the two chains merged with the hopes of reducing overhead by cutting duplicate positions and working with economies of scale to hopefully reduce costs and become stronger as a company. Well it didn't work. With the combined chain struggling with debt and leadership issues parks were put up for sale or closed like Six Flags America. In January trademark filings for various park including Six Flags St. Louis under the name of Enchanted Parks were the first hints of what was to come. In March of this year it was announced that EPR Properties had purchased seven parks from Six Flags. Those parks were La Ronde, Michigan's Adventure, The Great Escape, Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston, and Six Flags St. Louis. All of the parks, with the exception of La Ronde, were leased out to Enchanted Parks to manage for forty years. For seven parks EPR properties paid Six Flags $342 million dollars. If you do the math Six Flags sold each park for just under $49 million which is pennies on the dollar for what they are worth. Six Flags selling these parks for a little over what a major coaster costs goes to show how bad they are doing financially.

When the sale was announced Enchanted Parks mentioned that Six Flags St. Louis was not originally up for sale but seeing the value in that park, beyond taking profit from it and investing little, Enchanted Parks and EPR Properties insisted that if Six Flags wanted to sell any parks to them that Six Flags St. Louis must be included in the deal.

With Six Flags St. Louis finally owned by a company that sees the value in it, and understand that it needs investment, everyone that I have chatted with at Six Flags St. Louis, including the newly promoted Park President Danny Snyder is thrilled to be leaving Six Flags. With Six Flags massively cutting budgets at the park back in November and Six Flags St. Louis not getting a dime until the sale was finalized three weeks before opening day Danny and his team really had to scramble to get the park ready to open.

The one thing that has me excited about Six Flags St. Louis becoming Mid-America Park is Danny and his team are kind of the MacGuyver's of theme park management world. Give them hardly anything to work with and they have made the park look great, including looking better than parks with considerably bigger budgets in the Six Flags chain like Great America. Now that they are the big park in the Enchanted Parks chain, a chain that has already stated they want to invest, just imagine how great the future for Six Flags St. Louis/Mid-America Park is going to be.

With the sale finalized three weeks before opening, and the fact that Six Flags sold passes for these parks last year that included access to all of the parks in the Six Flags chain, these seven parks will operate as a Six Flags park for the 2026 season before permanently severing all ties on November 2nd.

One of the changes that I thoroughly approve of under Enchanted Parks is the removal of advertising signs around the park that Six Flags sold. My attitude is leave the ads for the real world and focus on giving them guests a great experience instead of using them as something to be sold.

With 2026 being the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Screamin' Eagle many of the signs around the park are now used to promote the park and the parks history.

Six Flags St. Louis also had banners all around the park promoting shows and several promoting the Screamin' Eagle's anniversary. I SO need one of these. Six Flags St. Louis please take my money.
