There's not really much guessing
at why they call it the Turtle as you happen to ride on the back on
one.
Rides like the Turtle used
to be found everywhere and were better known as "Tumble Bugs",
sadly there's just a few left including the Tumble Bug over at
Conneaut
Lake Park and one a few hours away at
Chippewa
Lake Park in Ohio but that one has sat rusting since the mid 1970's
and it's doubtful that it will ever run again. They were designed
by the same Harry Traver who was responsible for Kennywood's Auto Race
and are really a fun ride.
After getting all seated on
the Turtle it starts rocking back and forth to get over a hump before
heading around it's circular but hilly course.
I wish some manufacturer would
take a look at recreating the Turtle for other parks because it's a
nice ride that the whole family can enjoy together.
Another fantastic classic attraction
at Kennywood is their Noah's Ark funhouse. Like the Turtle these
used to dot the amusement park landscape but this is now the only one.
Personally I think with all of the amusement parks that have been flooded
this year that maybe some of them should look into adding one of these.
