This one gives a great view as to how the shopping center part of Old
Chicago was themed to look like turn of the century city streets.
The lamps were real gas lamps that used to line streets across the
Chicago area. Old Chicago purchased them and fitted them for
electric lights to add to the ambiance.
As Old Chicago was themed to the late 1880's I'm kind of curious why
there is a banner hung promoting Harry S. Truman as he was born in 1884.
Some of the shops seen in this postcard is Aisle 5 which was a gift
shop, the Old Chicago Beer Garden, Village Stereo and the House of
Schuller in the distance.
The Ka-Tiki Village was a group of twelve smaller shops under one roof.
The shops included the California Shop, the I Love You Shop, The Village
Soap & Bath Shop, the Kitten Shop, the Weeds & Seeds Shop, Wicker Shop,
the Candle Shop, Gags & Games, Sign Alley Shop, Polynesian Shop, Scents
& Scenes and the Playboy Shop.
Moving down into my collection of postcards from the Old Chicago
Fairgrounds shows the Chicago Log Race, Scrambler, Monster, Chicago Cat
coaster and the Mansion of Horrors off in the distance.
On that back of that postcard is a rousing endorsement that Old Chicago
is "a fun place for kids of all ages".
