While doing a deep dive through various newspapers I came upon quite a
few newspaper ads for Old Chicago that I have to share.
Everyday is a great day at Old Chicago proclaims this ad from May
of 1976. There were all sorts of magicians and illusionists from
Mario Manzini who was billed as "the worlds greatest escape artist" to
the Hugo Greystone Magical Revue who were performing at Old Chicago for
the "Houdini on the Mall" weekend.
On Sunday April 11 of 1976 Old Chicago and many of the mall's tenants
purchased this double page ad in the Chicago Tribune.
Old Chicago really had everything from clothes, to the House of jade, to
the Old Chicago Beer Garden to hobbies at the Flying Fish Hobby Shop.
For Father's Day all dads got into Old Chicago for free as long as they
had a paying kid with them. One thing you'll notice looking
through these ads was that Old Chicago was quite big on promotions.
This full page ad from Friday July 2nd, 1976 really has it all. It
highlights the Chicago Loop, mentions that Old Chicago was nearing it's
3,000,000th visitor, Spider Man was set to make appearances where
he'll give out free pictures and finally one of Old Chicago's big
selling points was that you can stay dry and cool under Old Chicago's
big roof instead of sweating it outside under the hot Illinois sun.
