With studies showing that Old Chicago was popular with teens and young
adults new management decided to address the parks lack of families by
adding The Fun Factory.
The Fun Factory was a multi story play area with rides, slides, and play
structures for kids. Guests to the Old Chicago Fairgrounds had
access to The Fun Factory while those who just wanted to play could pay
for an admission to just the Fun Factory. This made it extremely
handy for shopping parents to drop the kids off to play.
I have many fond memories of being turned loose to run and play at The
Fun Factory.
The Moon Walk full of a bunch of kids was always insanely fun. To
anyone that I accidentally bounced into and got knocked down like the
kid in the foreground I apologize.
The Polliwog Pond was kind of like a squishy water bed for kids to run
around on. As a parent now looking back it was awesome that they
had seating areas for parents to camp out at while the kids ran up,
down, and all around. The Fun Factory certainly wore all out who
spent any time there.
