In the end it is hard to see a dream like Old Chicago go.
Old Chicago was just a great idea that was horribly executed.
Having a indoor amusement park in a northern city that could operate 365
days a year while being paired with shopping under one roof is a great
idea.
Where the idea went bad was that Old Chicago figured the park would
bring the shoppers when it needed to be the other way around where the
shopping was the big draw and the amusement park was the secondary
business. Places like the West Edmonton Mall,
Mall of America, the
American Dream Mall took Old Chicago's great idea and learned from its
flawed execution to create successful combinations of amusement parks
and retail shopping.
When there was nothing left for the wrecking ball to knock down all that
we were left with from Old Chicago were memories.
Godspeed.
