The cobra roll is followed up by Kumba's mid course brakes where
you are given this view of the first half of the ride and the twisted
finale that is ahead of you.
That twisted finale is a corkscrew headed one way followed by a quick
turn and...
...a corkscrew in the opposite direction.
One of the things that can take an ordinary ride like a looping coaster
and make it extraordinary like Kumba is how Busch Gardens and Bolliger &
Mabillard worked the design into, around and over existing attractions
while surrounding the ride with stellar landscaping. That extra
little things really matter and Kumba is a perfect example of why parks
should go the extra mile instead of just plopping a ride down on top of
a parking lot (see
Six Flags Magic Mountain).
Another memorable ride from my 1981 visit was the Stanley Falls Flume
ride.
The Stanley Falls Flume is a classic Arrow Dynamics designed and built
log flume that was added to Busch Gardens in 1973.
