The saying goes that good things come in small packages
and
ZDT's Amusement Park in Seguin Texas certainly fits that idiom to a
T.
Seguin is the county seat of Guadalupe County a little under an
hours drive east of San Antonio. The town has about 26,000
people. Driving into town it really didn't seem like the sort
of a place for an amusement park. Seguin is not a big town, in
fact it reminds me of one of the larger towns here in rural Western
Illinois where I live and there is no way I would have imagined
anyone would build a park in one of them. But to throw another idiom
out here "fortune favors the bold" and ZDT's owners Danny and Sarah
Donhauser are certainly bold building not just an amusement park
somewhere no one else would have thought but they have made it work.
ZDT's is not a large park by any standard but what they have
squeezed into basically a city block is astounding.
The block used to be a food processing facility. There are
warehouses, offices, processing facilities, a railroad link and
these grain elevators. All of them have been repurposed into
something fun while keeping the site's history alive. Again
who would have looked at a old industrial site and say "let's turn
this into an amusement park"? Walking around and through ZDT's
Amusement Park Bond and I were really blown away at the audacity and
ingenuity of the transformation of the site.
ZDT's has a go kart track, spinning ride, flight simulator, indoor
rock wall, the silo climb, a trampoline, indoor playground, two
water slides, a water coaster, two arcades and...
