Getting invited to the preview of a brand new coaster is akin to
Christmas morning when you are a kid. You know it's coming and
with each tick of the clock you get more and more excited about unwrapping your
new "present". The Zambezi Zinger's original opening was set for
right before Memorial Day but was pushed back due to some supply chain
issues with some of the parts that go into the rides restraints.
When the First Rider Day/Media Preview was pushed back I feared it would
fall on the week that I had set aside to do an Indiana Beach/Cedar
Point/Kings Island trip. It turns out I was right. The date
was set for Friday the 16th, which was the day I was set to arrive back
home after my trip. With 605 miles between Kings Island and Worlds
of Fun my first thought when I got the email was that there was no way I
could do it on my own. With a little encouragement from my awesome
wife, my mind was changed, and I took off from Kings Island at 3:30 on
Thursday and arrived across the street from Worlds of Fun at 12:30 am on
Friday ready and excited to experience the new Zambezi Zinger.
That is after a few hours of sleep.
The Zambezi Zinger Media Preview started nice and early, early enough to
enjoy watching the sun rise over the Serengeti portion of Worlds of Fun.
As with any media preview for a new ride the traditional media were
there to interview the first riders and help promote the new ride.
Worlds of Fun has really gone out of their way to trick out and plus
everything they can about Zambezi Zinger including the podium for
the rides opening ceremonies. Building the podium out of coaster
wood and adding a spiral lift into it with a
Coaster Dymanix Coaster
Cutout model of the Zambezi Zinger was a nice touch.
Even Charlie Brown and Snoopy were ready to go for an excursion on the
Zambezi Zinger.
