The cool thing is the actual inside of a carousel.

This is the motor that sets the Grand Ole' Carousel in motion.  At the top of the drive shaft sits the ring gear that not only turns the carousel but that motion is also transferred to the horses so they can jump via cranking rods.

This carousel was the thirty-fifth carousel that Philadelphia Toboggan Company produced between the years of 1904 and 1934 and as was custom the number was carved into the center pole.  As steam power had replaced wind as the prominent method of shipping by the early 1900's, masts from sailing vessels were purchased and used to make center poles for carousels  One has to wonder how much of the world this center pole has seen of the globe before it ended up here.

Each horse on the refurbished Grand Ole' Carousel has its own identity.  There are horses that are more masculine and there are horses that are more feminine.

Some of the horses have a warrior theme to them.  Some of the horses are quite a bit more peaceful.

What's great is that everyone who rides the Grand Ole' Carousel is going to end up with a favorite horse out of the sixty-eight to choose from.
