One of the challenges in turning probably the most re-themed dark
ride in the world was making the boats work with Sally Dark Rides Ghostblasters
gun and all the equipment needed to add to them to make it all work.
Unfortunately adding the guns to the already aging boats and ride system
sped up Scooby-Doo's downfall.
All of the added weight to the boats with batteries, computers and the Ghostblasters
themselves led to significant wear and tear on the boats and all of the
added weight per boat really ripped up the rides lift causing maintenance
costs to go up exponentially over time.
I'm not necessarily in the know as to what is coming down the pike for new
rides at Six Flags St. Louis years in advance but I have known for three
years that 2014 would be the last year for Scooby-Doo.
For the last three years every month or so I'd hear from a friend or two
from the park with the latest concept floating around the rumor mill.
There was a Batman themed ride, a Looney Tunes ride and the most implausible,
but favorite of mine, was a Walking Dead (or generic zombie) themed dark
ride.
