Tunnels like this one were a common feature of the theme parks that
opened up in the boom times of the 1970's. There was one at Six Flags
Great America, Astroworld and a few others and I think that this one at
Six Flags St. Louis and the one at Six Flags Over Georgia are all that remain.
Yeah I know they're not a big thrill but they do offer a nice place to have
a seat and cool down when it's hot out. Plus filled with fog it's
great during for a scare or two during Fright Fest.
Opening day ended up being insanely packed with it being warm out and most
of St. Louis' schools our for spring break so we just wandered around grabbing
a ride here or there like Colossus. Midday it's nice to head on over
to Colossus for a ride so you can take in the view, enjoy the breeze and
take a load off of your feet.
Last year Pandemonium (Formerly Tony Hawk's Big Spin) was the "Kraft Evil
Corporate Cheese Swirl Pandemonium Ride Of Doom" but thankfully that annoying
advertising is gone and the ride is just Pandemonium.
Greg, Bond and I rode with Greg and myself on one side and I think we're
not going to do that again as the spin was more than too much for all of
us. The worst part was sitting in the brake run spinning like a top
for ten minutes as the ride broke down.
Oh, technical coaster geek stuff Six Flags St. Louis changed the station
so that the cars never stop...they just slowly creep through the station
like a conveyor belt as riders get off and on the slowly moving cars.
It's supposed to increase the rides capacity so that's a good thing.
The Boss...oh my! This was the biggest surprise of our visit to Six
Flags St. Louis. This coaster has had a troubled life with years where
it was kind of smooth and then it'd have two or three years where it was
so rough it was only good to ride in the spring or fall when there had been
a lot of rain.
