John Allen was known for designing
wonderful out and back coasters and the "GASM" is one of his
best.
The "GASM" is an out and
back coaster that's basically laid out like a big "L".
The turns are fun but the bunny hops are wonderful.
The Great American Scream Machine
is one of the most picturesque coasters out there. In my opinion
some art museum needs to
have a section devoted to coasters as they are not only great architectural
and engineering works of art but they are art in motion. A Coaster
is the ultimate in participation art where the designer sets up the
basic framework of what he wants to express and then the riders are
able to interpret the art
in their own way with their experiences
with others added into the mix.
Speaking of art Six Flags Over Georgia
has one of the ultimate examples of carousel art...the Riverview Carousel!
This carousel was built for the famous Riverview Park that once existed
in Chicago. I have a special connection to Riverview even though
I never went to the park because my parents and grandparents tales of
this carousel, the park and the world famous Bobs coaster turned me
into an enthusiast at a very young age. If I could go back in
time Riverview would be my destination.
Carrie is enjoying a go around on
one of the best cared for carousels that I have ever seen (Six Flags
St Louis...I hate to complain but take note of how SFOG takes care of
this carousel...your carousel needs a serious rehab...it has hand sized
bare wood where the paint has chipped off).
