One frustration for Vertical Velocity lovers is that for the last
three years the holding brake that just let you hang there on your restraints
for a few seconds has been disabled. If you asked why it was down
the ride operators responded that they needed to get some parts from Europe.
Well after three years of the holding brake being "broke" I asked
again and finally got a honest answer from a ride op. It seems that
holding the train up there was causing structural damage so the park decided
to just turn it off. So there you have it...typical Intamin engineering
like on numerous of their other coasters that eventually need modifications
or fixes like this one.
With our visit being on a couple of typical stifling hot Chicago summer
days we needed to cool off. So we took several rides on Loggers Run
and the Yankee Clipper. Out of the two the Clipper got us the wettest
as you can see Bond here is all drenched.
Even though the Yankee Clipper will get you wetter Loggers Run is still
a blast. But as the Clipper's entrance is kind of hidden by Vertical
Velocity if the park is crowded head there as it will have a considerably
shorter line.
For the last year the rumor going around has been that Iron Wolf, the parks
stand up coaster was going to be leaving and heading to some other park
in the chain as Six Flags has decided to start up the old ride rotation
program to give a few parks some "new" not so new rides.
