So classifying El Toro as a hybrid coaster and the fact that it's
the only hybrid that I've been on it is now my #1 ranked hybrid coaster.
One thing that is different from most wood coasters out there on El Toro
is it's track. Instead of building the track on site each rail is
manufactured in a factory under controlled conditions and to exact specifications
before sending to to be installed. This results in precise tracking
as well as less maintenance for the park. Of course the capitalist
pig in my head also says that it guarantees a future revenue stream when
replacements are needed but then again the park doesn't have to have a tracklayer
on staff or on contract.
Here's Ken and Corey after their first ride on El Toro. You get air
everywhere on this ride but for me I'll take a seat in the back every time.
El Toro was a fun ride outside of the pain and was a good coaster for my
250th credit.
Oh that big green tower in the background, just ignore it as it doesn't
work. It's engine either ate itself, electronics were fried from a
lightening strike or it's cable shredded. Any of those explanations
or a combination of them are completely plausible but one would think that
after something like 4 years in operation they'd have all the bugs worked
out of it.
