This helix may not look that exciting here but speeding around it
at 70+ miles per hour is a heck of a thrill.
Here is Superman's first helix way out there past its lift hill.
After my terrifying ride dangling two hundred and forty feet in the air
from some chains that are about as thick as those on your average
backyard swing set it was time for a coaster.
Apocalypse began its life in Gurnee, IL in 1990 as Iron Wolf.
After being removed from that park it headed east where Six Flags jumped
on the whole end of the world dystopia pop culture bandwagon in order to
give it a little theming.
Apocalypse was built on the site of the always broken Skull Mountain
flume ride. Six Flags America kept the theming from that ride
(they partly had to as it was built around the Wild One) and
incorporated it into the theming for Apocalypse.
