Apocalypse began its life in Gurnee, IL in 1990 as Iron Wolf.  After being removed from that park it headed east where Six Flags jumped on the whole end of the world dystopia pop culture bandwagon in order to give it a little theming.

Apocalypse was built on the site of the always broken Skull Mountain flume ride.  Six Flags America kept the theming from that ride (they partly had to as it was built around the Wild One) and incorporated it into the theming for Apocalypse.
