Our first day at Silver Dollar City was a little cold but it warmed
up into the seventies for our second day so Bond and I took the American
Plunge for a ride. This Arrow Dynamics designed and built Log Flume
takes you on a meandering course through some scenes with animatronic characters
and a few really good stunts before hitting the "Plunge" finale.
The lift takes you up fifty feet before plunging you down into a lake at
the bottom.
I have to say that this is by far the wettest Log Flume I have been on as
you get completely soaked. It's a fun ride and with the extremely
hot Southwestern Missouri summers a good soaking is what's needed after
sweating it out under the hot summer sun.
If you look around The American Plunge you'll notice what look like a few
troughs for the ride that are not in use. These are actually part
of the ride that The American Plunge replaced when it was added to Silver
Dollar City in 1981.
The ride that The American Plunge replaced was the Jim Owens Float Trip
that ran at Silver Dollar City from 1969 to 1980. It was a simple
and pretty sedate boat ride through the woods. The American Plunge
uses some of the scenery and troughs from the Float Trip and Silver Dollar
City left the rest for scenery.
