In the 1990's Opryland USA was at a turning point.  The park was landlocked between the hotel and river.  Competition was emerging from Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Dollywood in Pigeon Forge and a little park called Holiday World that was just a teeny blip on the radar that has became a massive regional park..

Also the market was changing.  While live musical shows were an integral part of Opryland through its history with few ride additions in the 1990's the customers were going elsewhere.  While the shows were great you parks needed to invest in rides because they are what bring the important family market through the gates.

As a result attendance began to decline.
