As a result of declining attendance Gaylord; Opryland's owners started
wondering if the property would be better suited as something that could
turn a profit year round
.
Instead of investing in the park or adding new rides it was decided to
close Opryland and build something that would turn a profit year round,
a giant shopping mall.
On December 31, 1997 Opryland USA closed its gates ending twenty-five
years of fun.
Here is a very young Bond (he is a month away from turning sixteen as I
write this) Bond trying to channel some of the fun that was once had at
Opryland USA.
So Gaylord Entertainment "paved paradise and put up a parking lot".
These empty spaces are where the rest of Opryland was. Once has to
wonder with all of this unused space (this was in the middle of the
Christmas shopping season) if they could have left the theme park, added
the mall and gotten creative with the parking
