Pamphlets, in a world before the internet, smart phones, or social media
was a big way of letting tourists find out what was to do in an area.
Old Chicago used pamphlets to give people a taste of what to expect.
There are lots of photos showing how much fun Old Chicago was.
This pamphlet pretty much hits on Old Chicago's big attraction which was
the Fairgrounds. You've got all of the bases covered with the
Chicago Loop, photos of shows, games, more rides, and even one of the
"Windy City Disco".
Looking at the hours of operation with the park shutting down during the
week over the winter this was probably put out in 1979. Old
Chicago reduced its hours drastically over the last year of operation in
hopes of saving some money to stay open. Unfortunately with no one
visiting the park on Monday through Thursday the shops in the mall
suffered causing many of them to go out of business. This then
caused Old Chicago to loose more money which lead to the amusement park
being closed with the mall shortly after.
Let's take a look at another pamphlet from early in Old Chicago's life.
