The lions that stood guard outside of the entrance to Old Chicago were
really a big deal. Across the Midwest right now there are
thousands of snapshots of kids sitting on Old Chicago's lions. It
was almost a prerequisite to a trip to Old Chicago to go and climb up
onto them.
Old Chicago originally tried to purchase the lions from the Art
Institute of Chicago but when the offer was returned with a very large
"NO" they found someone to recreate them with one difference. The
end of the tails on Old Chicago's lions are connected with the rest of
the body to keep them from being broken off like what happened to the
pair at the Art Institute.
Here is a snapshot of some visitors to Old Chicago posing with one of
the lions.
Old Chicago's legendary lions live on as after the park closed they were
purchased by a car dealer in the Chicago area where they have resided
ever since.
