Big Bad John is a fantastic classic mine train designed by Arrow Dynamics
back in 1970 when it opened at Six Flags St. Louis as one of the two tracks
that once made up the River King Mine Train.
Big Bad John has kept the original steam engine lead car. Here is
Rayne and Mike heading our on their inaugural Bog Bad John ride.
ter Six Flags St. Louis removed this half of the River King Mine Train in 1987 to eventually add the Ninja
this coaster ended up at Dollywood where it ran as Thunder Express.
After being removed by Dollywood to put in the Tennessee Tornado this
coaster headed west in search for a permanent home and Magic Springs is
where it ended up. As it is a custom coaster Magic Springs had to
work a little to find a spot where it would fit among the parks heavily
wooded and hilly terrain.
Where it ended up really is the perfect spot because outside of the
first hill and the return run three quarters of Big Bad John is hidden
in the wilderness which makes the ride worlds better than it's other
half that stayed at Six Flags St. Louis. Bury a coaster in a
forest and leave what it does a mystery and in my book that
automatically makes it a better ride.
