After a trip through Cincinnati on the Queen City Stunt Coaster we
decided to work our way around the park to see what else was up and
running.
One thing that makes Kings Island great is that they have always kept
the parks past in mind when they build for the future. This building in
the Coney Mall is a perfect example of how they keep the past alive even
though some of the parks rides are no longer with us. The Zodiac
referenced by the Zodiac Books sign was a double Ferris Wheel that
operated at Kings Island from 1975 to 1986. The Skylab from the Skylab
Cafe references the Huss Enterprise ride that was named Skylab that was
a part of the park from 1986 to 1997.
The Area 72 area of Kings Island is a really fun nod to the urban
legend that the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in nearby Dayton had
alien remains stored in the legendary "Hangar 18".
Area 72 is also a fun reference to the Area 51 test facility in the
Nevada Desert where again there have been reported alien space ships.
The 72 in the areas name references the year that Kings Island opened.
Working in fun Easter eggs to the theming around the park just adds to
the fun.
Deep inside of Hangar 18 is Kings Island's Flight of Fear coaster.
Flight of Fear opened as "The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear" during Kings
Island's Paramount years and was themed to the classic sci-fi TV show.
The ride is a Premiere Rides launched coaster that shoots you into
another dimension inside of this completely enclosed coaster. The
ride is fun but the queue's theming is not to be missed.
