The Orion Rollercoaster at Kings Island, Kings island, Ohio

The Big, and I mean BIG, attraction in Area 72 is Orion.

Orion rises two hundred and eighty-seven feet over Area 72 but it has a three hundred foot first drop due to the topography of the area.

For some in the enthusiast world there is a debate whether or not Orion can be considered a hyper (200-299 feet in height) or a giga (300-399 feet tall) coaster due to Orion's lift failing to hit the 300 foot level.  My stance on that debate is just leave it and take Orion for a ride because if you fall in Team Giga or Team Hyper we can all agree that Orion is an wickedly fun coaster.

What makes Kings Island's 200+ foot tall coasters such a great collection is that if you want airtime Diamondback will scratch your itch, while Orion is very much about experiencing and enjoying as much speed as possible.

Yes, Orion does have some wonderful airtime, especially in the back of the train, if that is what you are looking for.
