Next to Avalanche is another coaster that I was really looking
forward to riding during Coaster Con 41 but it was not meant to be.
Volcano: The Blast Coaster has not opened this year and from the holes
that have been opened in the side of the mountain I don't think it will.
No one knows what is wrong but my guess is that the thirty-nine year old
mountain that has been the home of numerous attractions like the Lost
River, Journey to Atlantis, Smurf Mountain and a few others before
Volcano was added to the then dormant mountain in 1998 might be needing
a little work.
It is really hard telling who the fellow enthusiasts are from the
regular guests in the park.
It is just Ken and Sue having fun.
The Backlot Stunt Coaster; like its duplicates at
Canada's Wonderland and Kings
Island, is a fun coaster. It is another remnant of Paramount's
movie tie-in mania from the 1990's as it opened as the Italian Job Stunt
Coaster. The ride has lost the name and the cars were modified to
not look as much like Mini Coopers after a lawsuit but still gives a
good ride.
This is something more parks need....wandering musicians. The band
was top notch and it was impossible not to grin as they came by because
they were having so much fun. Things like help turn just another
day at an amusement park into something memorable and special.
If there is any coaster that you need to ride at Kings Dominion this
mammoth beast is it.
