Part of what makes Phantom's Revenge so great is how it is shoehorned
into the park between the Turtle, Thunderbolt and squeezing into Kennywood's
land locked space.
When Kennywood hired Morgan Manufacturing to change Steel Phantom to Phantom's
Revenge at the end of the 2001 season the over the shoulder restraints needed
for the loops were unnecessary. As a result Morgan modified Steel
Phantom's trains and lap bars were in letting riders throw their arms up.
I think the easiest way to describe the final five hundred feet of Phantom's
Revenge is just "violent". Now that is not in a bad way but is a very
good way if you love an aggressive coaster like me. You have ejector
airtime, a ground hugging helix taken at speed and then a double up into
the brake run with what has to be the most intense airtime as you are shot
into the lap bar over one hill, slammed down into the seat and then rocketed
back up and then down before slamming into the brakes.
Lord it was good and as the day went on and the more Phantom's Revenge warmed
up the more violent and the more good it became.
Sitting shadowed by Phantom's Revenge's lift hill is one of the coolest
fun houses that I have ever been on. Noah's Ark is a classic walk
through fun house that was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in
1936 for Kennywood. I won't spoil all of the surprises inside of old
Noah's Ark but we had so much fun in it we took three voyages on it during
our day.
There are a lot of things that Kennywood was known for and the French fries
at The Potato Patch are one of those.
