Hey Kemah has a Zip Line. I have been wanting t
o try one
of these for a while.
The Iron Eagle Zip Line was designed by Stan Chekets of S&S Power
fame. Stan designed launch/drop tower rides like Power Tower
at Cedar Point or the Giant Barn Swing at Silver Dollar City.
Stan who is well into his 70's is one of those designers who never
stops coming up with new ideas and he saw the popularity of zip
lines sky rocketing and he figured out a way to make it safer and
higher capacity. On the Iron Eagle you board and exit the ride
at the same place. Once liked in the seats a motor pulls the
seats back out of the station and up to the top of a tower a hundred
feet over the Boardwalk. Once dangling up there you have a
second to enjoy the view before the voyage is reversed sending you
speeding down the zip line.
Iron Eagle was really a lot of fun and totally worth it. The
most frightening parts are being pulled in reverse at high speed and
then at the very end as the brakes don't kick in until just before
you get to the station. The thought raced through both of our
heads "Is this going to stop"? We loved it.
Flare is another of the very popular super sized "Ring of Fire"
rides that have been popping up at parks lately. These have
plenty of thrills and don't take up too much space.
This train didn't go anywhere but the smells coming out of the
smoker smelled fantastic. We almost got hungry but we were
still dealing with all of that seafood.
Entertainment is a big part of the Kemah Boardwalk as they have
weekly concerts and other events through the year.
