A huge change this year has been at the Alamo. Long gone are
having to yell through those little windows to place your order. Now
you go inside to order but the Walking Tacos have gone for a hike and
burritos are the name of the game these days.
Todd went for the Nachos...
...while I went with a Burrito.
The food was great but I know it has been a while since I was well
versed with all of the food offerings at Holiday World and how much they
cost but I was surprised how much the food prices have gone up. I
mean we used to be able to go to Holiday World with maybe $12 and eat
for three of us....well 2.5 of us as Bond was little back then. We
used to get the two slices of pizza deal with fries and it would be like
$5 Now it is over $10. I know there's inflation and
everything costs a little more but not $4 for a burger to $10. I
know having Holiday World's food at what I used to call "real world
prices" made it worlds easier for a family on a budget to visit the park
and eat but it seems like that concept is a thing of the past
unfortunately.
Having seen the end of the line the old Santa Claus Railroad/Freedom
Train that opened with the park back on August 3rd, 1946 is now on
display. I love parks that preserve their past and keep it alive.
Speaking of the past the Comet's Rockets has been a staple here since
the park was known as Santa Claus Land. On those evenings when I
would get done with work and we would all head into the park for dinner
we would always let Bond go and play in Rudolph's Reindeer Ranch.
Often times he would get one of the ride ops who knew us and with the
park empty Bond would ride and ride and ride. I believe he still
holds the record for the longest ride on Comet's Rockets where he went
straight for half an hour before us mean parents made his wild ride come
to an end.
