With the crowds being extremely light due to all of the rain Bond
and I really camped out on Mystery Mine.
It is such a perfect mix of thrills, theming and fun it probably is the
most imaginative and themed coaster since it opened in 2007.
If I remember correctly something like a third of Mystery Mine's
seventeen million dollar budget went to theming the ride up back in
2017.
A rule of mine is that if a ride is going to be heavily themed as part
of the attraction ride it as soon as you can after opening because at
many parks once a part of the theming breaks it tends to stay broken.
That may be the rule at the Six Flags of the world but not at Dollywood
as all of Mystery Mine's theming; as of ten years later it is all still
there up and running so everyone gets the full experience.
After the jaunt out into the sunlight Mystery Mine heads back
underground for one of the most impressive 1-2 punch finishes.
First you are hauled straight up eighty five feet into a mine shaft
filled with explosives. You will notice that I used the word
explosives there. That is important because after a few seconds
the entire room explodes and right as a giant fireball shoots towards
you Mystery Mine pushes you over the crest of a beyond vertical ninety
five foot drop. Once you come rocketing out of the mine Mystery
Mine rolls you upside down and just leaves you hanging there...
...before looping you down and up into the brake run where the
negative-g's are quite forceful.
