The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, Anaheim, California

The portrait gallery isn't really a room at all but a really elaborate elevator.  You see the ride building that houses the "Doom Buggies" and all of the ghosts and ghouls that haunt your journey through the Haunted Mansion actually sits outside of the railroad berm that Walt built to separate those inside Disneyland from the rest of the world.

In order to reach the ride building guests needed to be taken down to the basement level in order to be able to cross under the train tracks.  To do this the portrait room was created.

Guests are herded into the room and are slowly lowered down a story.  You don't feel it but as the room lowers the portraits around you stretch out revealing the models horrifying nature.

The Haunted Mansion is so much fun.  Once loaded on my Doom Buggy I stopped snapping pictures as I really wanted to enjoy all of the 999 ghouls around me.

By the way if you have been living under a rock the massive addition to Disneyland this year is the addition of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge themed section.  Unfortunately this is as close as we got to taking a look at this new area.  It was only open to guests staying on property and unfortunately for us it opened to everyone four days after our visit.

Around this jagged peak that towers over Frontierland is my first coaster love.
