When the drawbridge was lowered on the Sleeping Beauty's Castle
on July 17, 1955 Walt gave the following dedication:
"To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land.
Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the
challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the
ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with
the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the
world."
After winding our way through the crowds on Main Street U.S.A. we headed
into the wilds of Adventureland.
The last time I was at Disneyland was in 1980 when I was eight years
old. My Dad had a work convention across the street from
Disneyland so my sister and I spent our time either swimming in the
hotel pool or enjoying ourselves at the park. It certainly was a
different time back then where you could turn a ten and eight year old
on a park all alone.
Being an eight year old boy with a fondness for adventure the Jungle
Cruise sucked me in again and again just like it does now that I'm 47.
I do remember getting mouse ears with my name stitched on the hat the
last time I was at Disneyland. This time I left the ears for
Travis and Andrew.
If you have been under a rock for the last sixty or so years, the Jungle
Cruise is a boat ride through the jungle rivers of the world.
