I am very much into history and when we decided to take the pilgrimage
to Coney Island I dove right into reading about it. The more I read
the more it came to me that no neighborhood has had more of an impact on
American popular culture. For one example this is where the hot dog
was invented. They were originally called "red hot's" and
one vendor started a rumor that his competition used dogs for the meat that
vendor started calling them "hot dogs". The name stuck and
the plan backfired.
Here's Kevin taking a few photos of the beach.
Getting into some more history Coney Island is where Al "Scarface"
Capone; who once ruled Chicago's underworld, got the scar on his face while
working as a bouncer at a club here.
Here's Brian and Paul getting close to the surf.
Corey, Ken and I took off our shoes and waded into the surf. We had
to baptize Kin a bit as he had never seen the ocean before so he had to
get wet, although we were nice and didn't dunk him.
