When the Blue Streak was Cedar Point's "big" coaster the coaster line up
at the park consisted primarily of little portable coasters like Wild
Mice or Allen Hirschell "Little Dipper" coasters. Really between
1951 when Cedar Point's legendary Harry Traver designed Cyclone was
demolished and when the Blue Streak opened in 1963 there weren't
any coasters to really write home about.
The Blue Streak in 1964 lead to the Cedar Creek Mine Ride in 1969 which
lead to Corkscrew in 1976 and Gemini in 1978 and so on until we have the
giant theme park that is crammed with world class thrill machines today.
While Cedar Point has been around for over a hundred and fifty years the
Cedar Point that we know if began with the Blue Streak. When on
the point make sure to stop by, pay some respects, and of course take
the Blue Streak for a ride.
The final coaster on our tour that began on the Lake Erie side of Cedar
Point is Raptor.
Raptor of course is an inverted coaster designed by Bolliger & Mabillard.
B&M shocked the world in 1992 with the debut of Batman: The Ride at
Six
Flags Great America which was the worlds first inverted looping coaster.
With world wide media attention and lines reaching all the way to the
front of Six Flags Great America the theme park world stood up and took
notice. Cedar Point certainly took notice and after the 1993
season Raptor began to rise over the point.
