Disaster Transport at Cedar Point Amusement Park, Sandusky Ohio

Take a good look at this view as it's not going to look the same after the 2012 season comes to an end.

The news was leaked out that Cedar Point intends to remove Disaster Transport and the Space Spiral and will replace them with a almost 200 foot tall "Wingrider" coaster like X-Flight at Six Flags Great America.  It is supposed to loop high above the parks front gate and then loop over it again as it goes back over the gates on it's way back to it's station.  That should add some serious life to this corner of the park and give Cedar Point an amazing entrance.

So if the rumor is true; which my gut as well as sources says so, the chance to "Escape To Alaska" which was part of Disaster Transport's weird and cheesy theming is coming to an end.

Here's Bond and I taking it easy in the once air conditioned (it was not when we were there) queue surrounded be old gas tanks, a broken forklift, tons of black lights and fluorescent paint that constituted most of the ride's "theming".

When Cedar Point was ran by the now retired Dick Kinzel they were pretty obsessed with having a huge coaster count so this ride lasted longer than it's popularity but the new leadership seems more concerned with the whole experience so I'm not surprised to see the very dated Disaster Transport go to make way for a new ride.  Maybe Disaster Transport will get another life if Cedar Fair does what they've done with most of their old rides and send it to another park in the chain like Michigan's Adventure.

I like taking a break from the park and a brake from pounding the pavement and getting ones footwear off and feeling warm sand between your toes and the waves around your feet.
