Iron Dragon may not be anywhere near the thrills of it's neighbor
Top Thrill Dragster but it's still a fun ride we always hit when we're at
Cedar Point.
Unfortunately suspended coasters like this are an endangered species due
to age but I hope Cedar Point does all they can to keep it because it's
a great ride through the woods and it's a great ride on the lower end of
the thrill spectrum for young coaster riders to use on their way working
up to the big ones.
It would breathe a breath of life into Iron Dragon if Cedar Point would
replace the trains with some of the new floorless suspended coaster trains
offered by Vekoma. Having your feet dangling above the lagoon would
add a little more thrill to this ride.
To paraphrase the song "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell Cedar Point "Took
down the Wildcat and put up a wooden wall".
My gut feeling the reason Wildcat was suddenly removed a few weeks before
the opening of the season was not due to the revamping of the plaza it sat
in. I bet due to it's age and wear it would not pass Ohio's ride inspection
without considerable investment so it was taken out. Even though it
was not big, fast or thrilling I'll always think of Wildcat when I visit
Cedar Point because it was such a fun ride.
