As
the model of this coaster is called the "Corkscrew" it is
pretty obvious that the rides big thrill is rolling through seven
hundred and twenty degrees in a double corkscrew.
I do have to say that other than the kick to the side as you enter the
corkscrew just like in every other Arrow designed corkscrew loop the
Vortex is surprisingly smooth for its age. There are newer
coasters by Arrow I avoid due to roughness but the Vortex was great.
I think part of the reason that this was such a prolific design for
Arrow is because the corkscrew just looks so cool.
I mean Vortex's corkscrew is wrapped around the queue to the ride
getting everyone in line's heart pumping with anticipation each time
another trainload of riders loops overhead.
Even having been on 465 different coasters since I first laid my eyes on
The Chicago Loop I could still stand around here beneath Vortex's
corkscrew looking up in awe like a little kid. Unfortunately I
only had about twenty minutes left to do the rest of the park so I'll
have to save that for my next visit.
