The Sky Ride was one of the rides that Busch Gardens added in the 1970's as a way to build up the park in order to compete with a little park that was being built an hour away in Orlando called "The Magic Kingdom".

The Sky Ride has been running at Busch Gardens since 1977 except for a bit in 2011 when they had to close it down for the construction of Cheetah Hunt as the coaster goes right over it.
