It has been a busy year so I'd like to apologize for finally getting to
this trip report as late in the season as I have. I write in the order
that I visit the parks and with visiting nine different parks in three
weeks time over the end of May and early June it took me a while to get
to this one.
This visit to Six Flags Great America to be the first to ride Goliath was
not a late one, but an early one as we had to arrive at the park around
4 am to check in for Goliath's Media Day.
Needless to say some of us, like Brian (also known as "Waterboy" on the
Negative-G Forums) were awake
with adrenaline surging through their blood stream ready to tackle a new
extreme coaster like Bond and I were.
Speaking about myself the adrenaline kicked in at about six pm the previous
evening when Bond and I left home to journey from remote rural Illinois
up to the Chicago suburbs many hours away. We headed to a friends house
with the goal of maybe getting four hours of sleep before heading to the
park. Like a kid on Christmas Eve sleep was something that I was unable
to get as I was ready to speed to the park and give Goliath a ride.
Here is John (aka: Johnny.Ink) and Billy (aka: CoasterDemon) getting ready
to challenge Goliath.
Pulling back a little bit you can get a great view as to why I was unable
to sleep at all. This coaster like the previous Rocky Mountain Coasters
built wooden coaster; Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City, pushes the limits
of what a wooden coaster can do. I mean can you blame me for being
more than a little excited about this ride?
