As with most "Media Days" there is a lot of "hurry up and wait" as
cameras need to be set up, people are seated and then you wait for the sun
to be right or for a live break in a morning newscast for the ride to begin.
Of course there were interviews a plenty and a few people got to interview
Alan Shilke (on the left side of the photo) of Ride Centerline LLC, who
is the insane designer behind Rocky Mountain Coasters twisted wood and steel
creations while taking Goliath for a ride.
At some media days you get to ride like nuts and at some of them you only
get a handful of rides in. At media days coaster enthusiasts are props
and riding is at the whim of when the media and the park needs the coaster
to run.
For those of us really wanting to ride Goliath as much as we could this
was not the day for us as Goliath's train had several rows taken over by
cameras and media.
Also due to a really harsh Chicago winter Goliath's construction ran into
delays and as a result the Media Day was pushed back three weeks from when
originally planned.
I was actually thrilled for this because the original date was when we were
in Montreal on our Canada/East Coast trip. The week after that trip
was over Bond and I had committed to do
Coasting for Kids at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City so when it was first
pushed back we wouldn't be able to attend. Thankfully the Media Day
for Goliath got moved back a second time and it ended up on our first free
time in a month making it possible for us to attend.
