The Chestnut Mountain Alpine Slide, Galena, Illinois

The brake lever is your only control on the alpine slide and you have to push on it in order to keep the brake off.  If you let go or lose your grip the sled will automatically stop making the ride idiot proof.

There's not any big drops but the slide twists and turns it's way down the hillside.

Being the thrill seekers we are both Bond and I pushed the brake levers all the way forward and got going as fast as gravity would take us.

Oh, the alpine slide is something everyone can do because if your child is too small to deal with the brake lever the sleds are made for two.  Bond's too big to ride with me besides he's nearing the teenage years so he's getting that independent streak that all kids get.  I have no problem with the independence but the teenage attitude...good Lord it's going to be a long five to six years before that wears off.
