The Loch Ness Monster roller coaster - The American Coaster Enthusiasts Coaster Con 41 at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia

Looking at the Loch Ness Monster through the eyes of today it is hard to comprehend how radical and almost mind blowing looping steel coasters were back then.  The trains looked like something out of a science fiction movie.  Instead of the massive structures supporting a wooden coaster the structure supporting the Loch Ness Monster is almost nonexistent.  It all addied to the thrill.

Then there is the track that looks like a giant snake coiling through the sky doing maneuvers completely unimaginable just a couple of years before.  It is like the crayon scribbled coaster designs of a little coaster enthusiast coming to life in front of you

Having two loops back in 1978 was a big deal but wrapping them around each other certainly made Nessie stand out today just as it did back then.

With views from the midway below and from the bridge between Germany and Italy this has to be the most photographed loops in coaster history.

I know I took probably a hundred or so photos of Nessie's interlocking loops during our two days at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
