Mamba opened up in 1998 and is the final of three Morgan designed hypercoasters purchased by Worlds of
Fun's parent company Cedar Fair.
Valleyfair got the first one in 1996 with Wild Thing. Dorney Park
followed with Steel Force in 1997. Finally in 1998 Mamba rose on the
hillside at the back of Worlds of Fun making it visible all over Kansas
City.
When I am driving in to visit I spot Mamba's towering 205 foot tall lift
hill about 10 miles out. It is shocking that I haven't been pilled
over for speeding after seeing Mamba because my heart is certainly
racing as soon as I see it.
Evan is Worlds of Fun's Rides Manager and he choose to take us out here
as on those days when he needs to take a deep breath and relax this is
the spot that he comes to. It is easy to agree with him as It'd be
so relaxing to just sit down between these two great coasters and enjoy
the sounds of trainload after trainload of riders speed by over and
over.
If you talk to coaster enthusiasts we all have our favorite coasters by
various designers. For coasters designed and built by Morgan,
Mamba was tied with Quicksilver Express at Gilroy Gardens (due to the
latters beyond amazing landscaping) for my favorite one.
