For our second year Bond and I participated in the Coasting For Kids
fundraiser that Cedar Fair parks put on for Give Kids The World Village.
Once you raise more than $75 dollars you are able to visit one of the
Cedar Fair parks for a day of exclusive ride time and fun. Like in
2013 Bond and I participated at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri.
Worlds of Fun was a little late in posting what the exclusive ride time
(ERT) was to be as they announced it a little over a week before the
event. The first ERT was to have been on the slightly used Steel
Hawk (It came from Knott's Berry Farm where it had a troubled tenure)
but it was not up and running yet.
In the place of Steel Hawk we were given ERT on Detonator which is
Worlds of Fun's prototype S&S tower ride.
Here is David Lipnicky the Public Relations Director for the American
Coaster Enthusiasts joining me for a launch on Detonator.
Cedar Fair recently changed their rules so you can not continuously ride
for fear of concussions so we had to sit it out for a few minutes
between rides. Having camped out on many coasters for hours
including one Sunday where I sat on Greezed Lightnin' at Six Flags
Astroworld without getting off the train from 10 am until 6 pm getting
launched from 0 to 60 mph every couple of minutes without any ill
effects. But you've got to follow the rules so Bond grabbed a seat
and took a load off of his feet between rides.
