Oh for this trip report I handed off my still camera (A Cannon
Rebel XS for those camera addicts out there) to Bond who took most
of these photos while I played around with our GoPro Hero for a
video trip report you'll find later in these pages.
Doing five or six trip reports a year on Holiday World for all the
time we lived down the street from that park as a photographer
forced me to get creative with where I shot rides from because who
wants to see the same pictures year after year. That's one of the
things I imparted to Bond when I turned the camera over to him.
Mamba is a fun coaster to ride as well as shoot. Friday night
we were greeted with a massive lightning show on the west side of
Kansas City. As Worlds of Fun is on a high point and you can
see way into Kansas while flying over Mamba's hills on the out run
we were greeted with lightning from the northernmost horizon all the
way down south. It was magical. More on that later.
A critique Bond has is that there are not enough photos of me here
on Negative-G. It is kind of hard to have many photos of
myself as all of these trip reports are through my eyes but here's
one that he snapped of me. Check out the rest of the trip
report and you'll see that he isn't too bad of a photographer.
Detonator has to be one of the roughest but fun S&S shot tower
rides. As this was one of the first ones they were still
working out kinks in the design. What makes it rough is the
car actually shoots up over the top of the cable pulleys leading to
a few sudden jerks that add to the terror of being rocketed up into
the sky.
