Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World The Magic Kingdom, Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Tomorrowland was almost out of date the day it opened and by my first visit back in 1981 it was way out dated with it's rides filled with old tech like rotary phones and tape drives (as in the huge reel to reel drives you see in old Sci-Fi movies) for computers so in the mid 1990's Tomorrowland was turned into the Tomorrowland of the past with a very 1950's retro future makeover.

Two of Tomorrowland's icons that have not gone out of style are the Peoplemover to the left and Space Mountain to the right.  I think these two along with the Astro Orbiter and Carousel of Progress are the only original (although they all have had refurbishments and updates to their shows and rides throughout the years) rides left in Tomorrowland.

Technically the Peoplemover is currently called the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover.  When Tomorrowland opened in 1975 it was the "WEDway Peoplemover"  The "WED" referenced Walter Elias Disney and was the name of the part of the Disney Corporate structure where all the Imagineers work at.  That part of the company is now known as Walt Disney Imagineering.

Here's my Mom taking a relaxing spin on the Peoplemover.  This might be her speed now but this lady is where I get all of my thrill genes from as she used to tackle the legendary Bobs coaster at Riverview Park with ease and has always been a bit of an adventurous soul.  So if you run into my Mom please thank her as this site wouldn't be here without her.

The Peoplemover takes you on quite a voyage.  You venture through Space Mountain, around the Carousel of Progress (we did visit this but I forgot to take any pictures of it...sorry) and all over and through Tomorrowland from one end to the other.  Keep an eye out because inside one of the buildings you get a peek at the model that Walt Disney had built for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow or as it is known as by it's acronym...EPCOT.
