When I was last here in 1997 the first version of Test Track was in
the process of being built where the old World of Motion Pavilion used to
be.
Test Track is THE high speed thrill ride at Epcot as you're loaded into
one of these prototype automobiles and are sent out through the testing
process that any car goes through before being sold to the public.
The old version of Test Track ran from 1999 to 2012 and was sponsored by
General Motors. Throughout most of 2012 it was down for refurbishment
(and rebranding as Chevrolet now is the sponsor instead of all of GM)
and the big difference is instead of going through the a simulated real
testing process this version of Test Track takes your vehicle through a
virtual "Sim Track" that looks and feels like the closest you can come on
a ride to entering the movie Tron's "The Grid".
Test Track's finale is a full speed loop around the Pavilion and out into
some of the backstage parts of Epcot . That part is insane fun with
speeds up to 65 miles per hour but the "Sim Track" part of Test Track really
blew me away. After seeing that and how much it felt like the world
of Tron in reality Disney needs to get off their rear and make a nice Tron
Light Cycle ride for The Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland.
Being sponsored by Chevrolet of course Test Track riders can browse the
latest in Chevy cars and trucks afterwards.
Test Track rocks...Bond gives it a big two thumbs up.
