The last time I was at Universal Studios this was the "Murder She
Wrote Mystery Theater" where guests got to direct a episode of the TV
show. That was my least favorite attraction from my visit three
decades prior so I wasn't sad to see it replaced.
Transformers The Ride-3D is an immersive dark ride that mixes in ride
vehicles that can move a car load of guests all around while synching
them up to sets as well as wall sized 3D screens to tell a story.
While I never got into the Transformers as I was a teenager when the
show came out the story for the ride is simple. There are good
transforming robots and there are bad transforming robots and there is a
government organization working with the good ones. There are big
battles, lots of explosions and in the end you and the good robots win.
Despite my simplistic explanation of the ride it is really impressive
and quite fun.
At Universal Studios Florida not only can you ride into the world of
the Transformers but you can even meet one.
G'day Bruce.
For those of you who don't know Bruce is the name of the shark in the
movie "Jaws". The crew named him Bruce after Stephen Spielberg's
attorney. Sadly this is the only remnant of Jaws: The Ride that
was set to be the star attraction at Universal Studios Florida back when
he park opened. One version of Jaws; The Ride opened with the park
in 1990 but was shut down before my spring 1991 visit as the entire ride
needed to be redone due to a poor design and unreliable equipment.
The revised version of Jaws: The Ride lasted until 2012 when the seven
acre ride closed to become The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon
Alley.
As you walk deeper into Universal Studios Florida Production Central
morphs into the New York section.
One of the big attractions in New York is the Race Through New York
Starring Jimmy Fallon. It's a simulator ride and not something
that I can really enjoy so I skipped this one. Besides I never
really found Jimmy Fallon that funny. I guess being raised on
Johnny Carson and Letterman spoiled me.
