Once the chariots are added to the work on the Grand Ole Carousel won't be complete as there are plans over the years to completely enclose the ride so not only the horses can be cared for in a climate controlled environment but guests will also be able to cool off in a seat around the outside of the ride.

This ancient Egyptian themed horse is named Ra after the god that created the universe.  Having once been way into Egyptology when I was growing up I decided to attempt to decipher the hieroglyphics on Ra's saddle.  The scarab beetle often symbolizes rebirth and of course the pharaoh is the king.   With as many times as this carousel was reborn at a new park as it was reborn at Puritas Springs Park and Indian Lake Park before being reborn a second time with this work one might say that the Grand Ole' Carousel is the king of rebirth.

As Travis and I are kind of Six Flags St. Louis super fans and huge boosters of the work that went into the Grand Ole' Carousel Six Flags wanted both of us to be the first to ride.

Damascus is what this horse is now named.

What might make this my favorite horse is that all of its armor and sword are made to look like Damascus metal.  There are wonderful little touches like this on each and every horse.
