This Batman: The Ride; like most of the other inverted Batman
coasters arte based off the original that operates a little to the
north at Six Flags Great America.
That coaster was shoehorned into the middle of the park where the
Anton Sckwarzkopf designed Tidal Wave shuttle loop coaster was.
Tidal Wave launched you out of the station using a large weight;
which was high tech in the 1970's, through a loop, up a steep tower
where the train would stall out and fall backwards down the tower,
back through the loop, through the station in reverse to a spike of
track where it would once again stall before hitting the brakes and
coming to a stop in the station.
Six Flags Great America took the space that held a coaster of just
863 feet and stuffed the worlds first inverted coaster with 2,700
feet of track. That coaster changed everything garnering
international news, lines that stretched all the way to the parks
entrance and a wait that could take six or more hours. It was
obvious to everyone that Six Flags had a monster hit on their hands
so just like in the movie industry (Six Flags was owned by Time
warner then) they went sequel.
Batman: The Rides started popping up at Six Flags Parks all over the
country.
When this Batman: The Ride opened up in 1995 it was the fourth
Batman (there was a copy sold to a park in Japan that was not called
Batman) in the chain and the only mirror image of the original.
