Shortly after we started the tour one of the kids found a bolt from
the ride and after Six Flags gave their permission for them to treasure
hunt for souvenirs all of them spent their time scouring the grounds for
bolts, washers, nails, nuts and bits of wood from the Eagle. Bond
found some eighteen inch long screws but I had to draw the line on that
item as I really didn't want to walk around the park with it and he doesn't
need a huge rusty nail sitting around his room.
John Allen who designed the Screaming Eagle once said that a coaster should
not just inspire awe from a ride full of thrills but from it's magnificent
beauty.
The Screaming Eagle, set amongst the trees and hills of Six Flags St. Louis
was the crowning achievement in his career but is also fits his criteria
of giving a thrilling ride and inspiring awe with it's beauty.
Using it's hilly terrain the Screaming Eagle's third drop is almost as big
as it's first. At the bottom of it is where the coaster hit's it's
fastest speed.
